Sylvia Lewis on "Where's Raymond?"

LIFE magazine feature on the pilot: November 15, 1953...

"The Ray Bolger pilot was choreographed by Hal Belfer, for whom I had assisted at Universal Studios the year before.  There were two dancing girls... one who had a small acting role, played by Rita Moreno, and me.  From that job, Ray and his wife Gwen were so pleased with the way Ray responded to me and looked with me, they decided to make me his leading lady in the series, and also the choreographer.  Hal always took credit for starting my career, and rightly so.  I took a job away from him, but he was so generous and happy for me, that he remained my champion and friend until he died . He was rare in that town."
